Explorations and Revolutions
Course Description:
This year-long class focuses on the revolutionary thoughts of the artistic revolution of the Renaissance; scientific revolution of the Galileo, Newton, and Kepler; and the European Age of Exploration and its effects.
Essential Questions:
What is a revolution? What is revolutionary thinking?
What factors might lead to a revolution in thinking, technology, belief systems, economics, artistic expression, written expression, politics, or ?
What are some positive effects of revolutionary thinking?
What are the negative effects of revolutionary thinking?
What are the factors (geographic, economic, technological, personal, and political) that led to the "Age of Exploration" occurring during the time of the Renaissance?
Who were some of the explorers involved in this time period? What were they hoping to "find"? What were some of the factors/motivations that may have led them to join this dangerous profession?
In what ways were societies during this time period impacted by exploration, discovery, or being conquered? How have societies been affected since by the knowledge gained or resulting actions through this period of exploration?
